What do I need to run Writespect?

An x64 PC running Windows 10 version 2004 or later, including Windows 11, with Microsoft Word installed and a supported AI assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT Work, or ChatGPT Codex. Writespect runs locally and attaches to your live Word session.

Does my work leave my computer?

Writespect runs on your machine and talks to your own copy of Word. It does not upload your documents to Hopeful or to a Writespect cloud service.

Two things to be aware of:

• Your conversation with your AI assistant, including any document text it reads in order to answer you, is handled by that assistant’s provider under their policy, not by Writespect. If your documents are confidential, review that policy before pointing an assistant at them.
• Writespect keeps local snapshots of your documents so edits can be undone. They stay on your machine and you control retention. See Tracked changes & review.

Will it change my document without me noticing?

Edits can be made as tracked changes, so every insertion and deletion appears as a Word revision you accept or reject. Writespect also snapshots the document before every change, and most instructions land as a single entry on Word’s undo stack, so one Ctrl+Z reverses one instruction. Header and footer changes may require several Ctrl+Z presses.

Which AI assistants are supported?

Assistants that run on your machine and support the Model Context Protocol (MCP): Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cowork, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Work and ChatGPT Codex, in both CLI and desktop forms.

What kind of assistant connection does Writespect need?

Writespect requires an assistant that can connect to a local MCP server on the same Windows machine. A general chat window or Office sidebar that cannot make that local connection cannot use Writespect.

Can I still edit the document by hand?

Yes. Writespect reads the document’s current state before it edits, and an assistant that pinned what it read will fail rather than apply an edit to a document that has moved underneath it. Take turns rather than typing in a paragraph while the assistant is working on it.

Can it work on a document that isn’t open?

Yes, for work that does not require Microsoft Word itself. Writespect can read and edit a saved .docx directly. Features such as recording tracked changes or producing a Word-native redline require the document to be open in Word.

What kinds of documents can Writespect handle?

Writespect works with professional Word documents that benefit from precise, reviewable editing, including agreements, briefs, reports, specifications, policies, procedures, and standards. A document does not need to be long or use a particular template.

Is Writespect available yet?

Writespect is in private development. Wider release information will be posted on the Writespect product page.
