The schedule grid

The schedule grid is the heart of Slotted. It turns your task list into a real day plan. Drag tasks from the list onto the timeline, then move and resize them until the day looks the way you want.

Placing tasks

Drag a task from the list onto the timeline to schedule it. A drop-target highlight appears while you drag from the task list, so you can see exactly where the block will land.

When you release, the block snaps to the grid in 15-minute increments. The drag itself stays smooth, and the snap only happens on release.

Shaping a block

Slotted uses a single-gesture interaction. Where you grab a block decides what happens:

  • Top edge: drag to resize the start time.
  • Bottom edge: drag to resize the end time.
  • Middle: drag to move the whole block to another time.

Everything snaps to 15-minute increments on release.

Standalone time blocks

Not everything on your day is a Things 3 task. Double-click an empty slot to create a standalone block for things like “Lunch” or “Morning run”. These blocks live only on your schedule and are not tied to any task.

Block colors

Hover over a block and click the color dot to cycle through 12 soft pastel colors. Use color to tell routines, meetings, and focused work apart at a glance.

Scheduling the same task more than once

With multi-timebox, you can place the same task into several time slots, which is useful when a task spans the day or you work on it in sessions. To do this, turn off Hide scheduled tasks in Settings so the task stays in the list after you schedule it.

Keyboard control

  • Click a block to select it.
  • Use the arrow keys to nudge the selected block by 15 minutes.
  • Press Delete to remove the selected block.

The “now” line

A “now” line runs across the grid at the current time, so you always know where you are in the day relative to your plan.

Carry forward

By default the schedule clears at midnight. Turn off Clear schedule at midnight in Settings and your blocks persist into the next day. Recurring routines like lunch and breaks stay in place, so you do not need to recreate them each morning.

Note: Completed tasks are automatically removed from the schedule, so finishing work in Things 3 keeps your plan tidy on its own.
